ONCE UPON US, 2019

QUEEN MARY UNIVERSITY, LONDON, 2019.

(IN DIALOGUE WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PADUA FOR 2026)

Inspired by the latest epigenetic research on how environment, experience and personal choices influence the expression of our genes, Once Upon Us was born from a dialogue between art and science to explore the interaction between memory, inheritance and free will.

The project unfolds in three chapters:

• a participatory and sensory installation transmitting a sound composition of memories collected from around the world
• a conversation between the public and multidisciplinary experts on the meeting between ancient and contemporary theories of ancestral memory
• an artistic workshop dedicated to the researchers invited to the New Horizons in Genomics Week 2019

A collective reflection on how our choices become part of the shared memory of humanity.

Ispirato alle più recenti ricerche epigenetiche su come ambiente, esperienze e scelte personali influenzino l’espressione dei nostri geni, Once Upon Us nasce dal dialogo tra arte e scienza per esplorare l’interazione tra memoria, eredità e libero arbitrio.

Il progetto si articola in tre capitoli:

• un’installazione partecipativa e sensoriale che trasmette una composizione sonora di ricordi raccolti da tutto il mondo
• una conversazione tra pubblico ed esperti multidisciplinari sull’incontro tra antiche e nuove teorie della memoria ancestrale
• un laboratorio artistico dedicato ai ricercatori invitati alla settimana New Horizons in Genomics 2019

Una riflessione collettiva su come le nostre scelte diventino parte della memoria condivisa dell’umanità.
